It's time, it's time...

for a "blog candy" giveaway!!!! To celebrate over 6000 hits in just a couple of months and several subscribers and the fact that the holiday of hearts, known as Valentines Day is quickly approaching, I figured it was time for a giveaway to thank everyone who has made this blog what it is!!
So, without further ado...this is what you have to do!!! Leave a comment on this post and tell me your earliest Valentines Day memory by 8pm Monday night (1/22/07)...at that time, dds will pick a comment out of a hat and that person will win the above...what is the above? It is...two Snoopy valentine cards...an assortment of chipboard hearts - different sizes/shapes, some chipboard roses and an assortment of velvet hearts in different sizes/shapes and two colors - red and burgundy...

I'll go first...my earliest Valentines Day memory is when I was probably 6 years old and my Dad gave me a box of chocolates in one of those red heart boxes...I don't remember the candy, but I do remember that box, so red and shiny and to this day whenever I see those old style boxes (without SpongeBob or whatever other character is on them now!!) I'm brought back to that day...

so...what about you?

I remember making homemade valentines in elementary school (when store-bought ones were more popular). My mom would buy a selection of pink/white/red construction paper, some heart-shaped doilies, and packages of stickers. Sometimes I would cut pictures out of the Sears & Roebuck catalog of things to attach to the valentines (for example, if my friend Jimmy liked to play basketball, I would cut out a picture of a basketball and glue it on) - to make them more personal. I can't remember how these "personal" valentines were accepted by my friends, but I sure enjoyed the whole creative process! I think that's where it all began!

How sweet of you! Hmmm! I hadn't thought about it for a long time: I remember making these cute heartshaped boxes we would make out of cereal boxes in Kindergarten, and we kids would all make valentines cards for each other and put them in there. We would have them hanging on the side of our desk and get so excited about them.
Thanks for making me remember a good thing!

Hmmm, I remember making "mailboxes" in school for our valentines.... but my best childhood memory has to be the plastic heart shaped container of cinnamon hearts my Grama gave me every year.

I remember in about grade two making valentines out of paper doilies and construction paper.

Gosh, this is a toughie! Earliest v-day memory, huh? Ummmm...if I think real hard...I'd have to say 4th grade...we did a card exchange like they used to do (do they still do that??)...with the decorated folders taped on the fronts of all our desks. It was always fun seeing the valentines that everyone gave! :)

I remember being so excited to pass out my valentines in class in elementary school. Each of us would decorate a bag and it would be sitting on our desk and we would walk around and put one in each bag. It was just a lot of fun!

My earliest memory is similar to some of the above comments. I loved creating the folders that hung on the front of the desks that held the valentines the most. And if memory serves me correctly, we did this beginning in 1st grade! Yikes, that was a long time ago! :)

Gosh, I think I would have to say my earliest memory was probably first or second grade. The teacher had sent home a list of everyone in the class so we knew who to address our valentines to. My Mom *made* me write out every single persons name on my valentines. That was SO HARD for a first grader. It seemed to take forever! Thanks for jogging my memory!!!
Keep up the great blogging!!

My dad used to make little heart sucker boys and girls for me to give to my classmates - we'd make arms and legs with pipecleaners and he'd cut out little construction paper skirts and shorts to glue onto the sticks. :)

My earliest Valentine's memory is when I was 35 and met my husband!! I swear my mind is a blank before that. A boxed dozen long stemmed roses arrived at my house and my Mom called me at work to let me know. The rest is history!! Joan

ps. your blog has really nice postings.

My earliest Valentine's memory would have to be while I was in grade school. I remember how exciting it was to sit at the table and write out my valentine's chosing who would get each one. Then going to school and having our exchange. It was so exciting to have all these special cards to bring home.

My earliest memory goes back to probably the first grade. My teacher would pass out the class list and I would go through the box of Valentine's my mom bought and picked out each persons. It had to be just right. I also saved the bestest for my teacher. Then I would write out each one and decorate the envelopes. On Valentine's Day I would pass them out in the little bags/envelopes (I honestly don't remember which) that were taped to our desks.
I loved coming home and going through all my Valentines! Happy Valentine's Day to you!

What a fun idea, my earliest memory is really quite sad i would have been about 17. I was going out with my now husband (he was my first ever boyfriend and I married him, aaarrrh) I opened up the back door to my parents house to go to work and there on the doorstep was a huge boy wrapped in a black bin liner. I think my name was on it, and I remember bringing it into our kitchen and getting all excited about it and unwrapping it. My mum and everybody was watching me do this, and inside was a huge cuddly thing (that is the only way to describe this) as it was called My Pet Monster it was a huge blue creature with furry body and sort of rubber face and he had bright orange handcuffs on (it sounds awful) but I thought it was the best thing since sliced bread and it was my first ever valentines present I was over the moon.

my earliest memory of valentines day is not a happy one-a life lesson that valentines day is not a good day for practical jokes when teen hearts are involved.
I arranged for a girl friend to recieve a valentine message from her crush in grade 7, when she found out it was set up she didn't speak to me for a long time...

I don't remember much from when I was younger but my earliest memory when I was dating my hubby in high school was: He had dinner reservations, and plans to take me to a movie. I worked my butt off to make a homemade dinner for him at my house, candles and all. I then had a scavenger hunt for him to search for his gift. We then went and watch Titanic at the theater... :)

I just realized that I had this same stamp, so I used your card as inspiration. If you like, you can see the card I did in the Simply Sentiments card gallery. I'll be sure and post a link back to your blog ;) mnhyrkas
