DRS Designs Challenge #20

This week's DRS Designs Blog challenge for the DT was to use our favorite technique on a project. When I thought up the idea, I didn't really give any thought as to what I would do and what exactly my favorite technique was/is. Needless to say when I got ready to make my project, I couldn't decide what I should focus on!!

I've this idea floating around in my head for a while now and thought I would incorporate it into the challenge. One of the first things I thought of when I saw these new release images by DRS Designs and Dustin Pike was a little baby animal pull toy!

The techniques I used (and tend to use alot!) were sewing on the card (base), detail cutting (all the animals were cut out) and adding dimension (some of the spots/noses/heads are raised on pop dots). The template for the base came from one of the technique challenges on SCS not too long ago. You can find the template HERE.

For sewing on paper, I used my standard big ol' Brother sewing machine. I use a basic needle. I don't sew on fabric too much so I'm really not worried about what will happen to the needle. They are easily replaceable. I have found that the shorter the stitch, the better it looks on cards. For detail cutting, I LOVE my Cutterbee scissors. The black and yellow ones with a tiny point. They are awesome! I don't have a favorite pop dot...I have some that are thicker than others, all different brands. I pretty much use whatever suits my project.

I stamped Vicki's versatile background (H369)on the base to make it look like wood. I also stamped it on the banner (Sizzix). I inked just the word jungle from THIS (D908) sentiment and attached it to a skewer that I trimmed down. All the animals were stamped, colored and cut out. I added dimension here and there with pop dots. The base is filled with kraft shred. I found some wood beads in my stash and glued those to the bottom of the base. I added some twine and another bead for the pull string!

This was a fun project and relatively easy! Be sure to check out the other DT projects and their blogs for even more inspiration. We would love for you to participate. Just post a direct link on the challenge post and if you upload to a public gallery, please use the keyword DRSC20.

Thanks for checking in...
See you soon...
