The Thursday challenge on SCS is ways to use it (supplies you have but may not think to use all the time) and this week is it to use sandpaper or sanding blocks...I have those!!!

I didn't have time to participate in the challenge yesterday so when I rec'd the mail and saw this I knew what my card would be! This image was actually half of a postcard from a local real estate agent soliciting business...it's very glossy and I knew sanding it would give it just the right look...so that's what I did! I cut off what I didn't want...sanded around the edges with my sanding block, made a slider with part that I had to cut off, sanded that and adhered it using a leftover piece of stamp rubber. I used some patterned paper scraps and silver paper for the backgrounds...I scored the silver and sanded that too to make it look kind of like the pail. I also sanded the green pp but it's a little hard to tell from the photo. I got to use three new toys that arrived yesterday on this card...linen (SU!) background...I can't believe I waited this long to get it! I wish now that I never got Canvas (SU!) - this is just a nicer look. I used linen thread and my new rectangle hole punch...I love the rounded edges it leaves...
Once I was done I felt it needed just a little bit more so I pierced the top and side in parallel lines...the sentiment is Hero Arts stamped in black stazon ink...
Well, thanks for checking in...I hope to return by the end of the day but if not have a great weekend! Today is the 100th day of school for us so I have to pick dd#2 up from school so she can show me all the projects the students submitted, each with 100 of something on them...guess what she did??? 100 Sizzix animals in groups of 10!!! I knew that machine would come in handy for something!!! Only 83 school days left until summer vacation!!!!

Well, I made it back just before I have to leave to pick dd up from school - I was able to squeeze in two other cards today - both have been on my mind for a while and one also qualifies for today's limited supply challenge to use "faux" chipboard...
First - an idea/sketch I've been wanting to try...
You might remember this image from a post back in December...he is a stamp from DRS Designs and as you can see from the actual stamp he is juggling snowflakes but I thought I would change him up a little and juggle heart beads! I was going to stamp the heart from Toucan of My Love and pop those but they ended up being too big so I went with the beads. I used a Cuttlebug embossing folder on the red and rubbed over the top with my white craft pad. The main focal point is popped as well as the snowman himself. I pierced the top of the card and used a cuttlebug slide for the Hero Arts sentiment. I pierced that too and then highlighted the holes with my Stardust pen.My next one has been in my head for a while too and since the challenge today was to use faux chipboard I figured it was a good time to put it on paper!
I used my Olivia font Cuttlebug alphabet set for this card...thanks comes as one word in the set so I punched it several times...the purple word is mounted on my "faux" chipboard which is part of a cereal box. The green words are mounted on the same color cardstock so I guess that would be faux embossing!! The vase and flowers are part of the set as well...the entire focal point is mounted on a pieces of the chipboard...I used watercolor paper under the vase and flowers...I added some jewels and some ribbon threaded through holes made by my new rectangle hole punch. See you soon...
