Need a bag for that?

I finally had a chance to do yesterdays technique challenge over on SCS to make a tote bag...

This first photo is actually my second try...I had this idea in my head last night when I started working on the challenge but then the night got away from me and I wasn't able to finish. Once the color challenge (#100!!!!) was posted this morning I decided to make that one first...hoping I would be one of the first to post and correctly guess the most used color in the challenges...found here:

I definitely wasn't the first to post and I'm not sure my color guess was correct either - I guesses chocolate chip...oh well - it was fun trying!!! This tote was made with velvet paper I found at Target last night...its close enough to Cool Caribbean, don't you think? I used my scallop blade for the brown piece and my slit punch to cut the scallops in the blush piece and of course my scallop punch for the circle. The heart (from Gentler Times- SU!) is stamped in blush blossom on shimmer paper and cut out...it's a little hard to see in the photo...I stamped the sentiment from Smorgasborders (SU!) in chocolate chip. I ran some white grosgrain ribbon over the seam where the two scalloped blush pieces fit together...I used my white gel pen for dots on the scallops and outlined the heart and blush scallops with my stardust pen...I thought my brads for the handles were lined up...not so!!! oh well. I also added eyelets where the ribbon is threaded through the middle of the tote.
I'm such a hoarder I can't believe I actually cut into the velvet paper - isn't it cool? I'll have to play with that some more!!!
My "second try" tote is stamped in ballet blue with linen (SU!) and the big flower from big pieces (SU!)...I stamped big blossom ( SU!) on the back of my patterned paper and cut it out then I cut it in half (so to speak) and mounted each one on either side of the tote. I pierced and used my white gel pen to simulate stitching...I again used my slit punch to make a scalloped border at the top and added some jewels...there are some in the blue flower centers and the yellow flower centers...the ribbon is from Michaels $1 bin - it is called shopping girl!!! The tag is from the tag punch box (SU!)...I replaced thank you with friend...I think this may go to one of dd's friends that will be moving to Spain in a month or two...filled with some note cards so she can write to her friends back here in the US...dh laughed when I mentioned that...it seems no one writes letters anymore thanks to email.!! Well, I'm sure dd will be thrilled to get real mail - I know I always am!!!
