Two for Tuesday...

Today was/is the color challenge over on SCS...

I made an anniversary card for my parents...just in the nick of time since their anniversary is October 1 and the month of September has just flown by!!
Here is their card... (click on photos for closer views)

The flower image is by Inkadinkadoo and the sentiment is from DRS Designs. The flocked paper is from Target - I got a good deal on a few packs in different colors the last time they clearanced the scrapbooking aisle! My focal point is stamped in bliss blue on off white and then I rock-n-rolled the stamp in olive...my olive pad is not SU! and its a little small so I didn't quite get the effect I wanted but this is good enough! I added a jewel four pronged brad (Nicole) to the flower center. I added ribbon up top and some pewter brads and to fill in the open area below the focal point, I added a scrap of my olive layer with more brads. I stitched along the bottom of the focal point in blue and green. The focal point is raised on pop dots. It still looked a little plain so I traced in between all the flower lines with my stardust pen.

Next up is a Christmas card in the same color combo...All images on this card by DRS Designs.

Since this is a holiday card with non-traditional colors I wanted those colors to be more in the background than in the forefront! I used my snowflake embossing folder (cuttlebug) for the white layer. I stamped my snowman family in black and colored with markers in the challenge colors. I didn't color each area completely because I wanted to give a shadow effect...I like the way the coloring turned out! I used my bliss blue marker for shading on the bodies. I sponged a little bit of bliss blue in the sky area so it didn't look so stark. I varied my layers a little and stamped my sentiment in black. I added some jewels to the open area above. Since my lower corner looked a little sparse, I added a photo corner and a snowflake brad from OTC. I adhered a jewel in the flake center. Oh, can't forget, I also doodled the black frame around the focal image.

I guess I should also mention the stitching on this card...the zig zags on the sides...do you like the short stitching? Do you think it was supposed to be like that? Well, if you like it, it was supposed to be like that! ;-) In reality....I intended to stitch all the way around that layer...my sewing machine had other plans! For some reason it kept getting stuck and this is what I ended up with! It works for this card, but I'm still mad at that stupid thing! I used it the other night on my red hat card and it worked...I threaded it the same way...I just don't get it! Geesh! Ok, now that I got that out, I feel better!!!

So, there you have...my Tuesday cards! Maybe I can sneak up to my studio to work on another idea before I make porcupines for dinner! I thought I would try something different - my bribery to get them to eat them...fries instead of mashed potatoes!!!

Happy Tuesday...see you soon...
